On August 19, when a video of South star Rajinikanth kneeling down to Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, went viral, it created uproar among Tamil film fans.
People of all political persuasions have praised and criticised the actor for his act.
While some attacked him for paying homage to the chief minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh, who is known for his policies that primarily target minorities, others praised him for paying homage to a Hindu saint. Notably actor is on tour after the release for his blockbuster movie ‘Jailer’.
During his visit to Lucknow, Rajinikanth also met the chief of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav. they can be seen greeting each other by a hug. Taking it to Twitter, Yadav mentioned, “When hearts meet, people embrace. During my engineering studies in Mysore, the happiness I used to feel seeing Rajinikanth ji on the screen is still intact. We met in person 9 years back and have been friends ever since…”
While talking to ANI after meeting SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, actor Rajinikanth said, “I met Akhilesh Yadav 9 years ago at a function in Mumbai and we are friends since then, we talk on phone. 5 years ago when I came here for a shoot but I couldn’t meet him, now he is here so I met him…”
