New Delhi: A disturbing incident unfolded in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh on August 14, when a rabid stray dog went on a violent biting spree, attacking 17 people—including women and children—in under an hour. The shocking sequence of events was captured on CCTV, revealing the dog's ferocious behavior.

Vicious attack caught on camera

The CCTV footage, recorded outside Ashish Yadav's residence in Awas Vikas Colony, shows a 22-year-old BBA student being viciously attacked by a stray dog. The incident occurred around 9:45 PM as Ashish was talking on his phone outside his home. The video shows the dog charging at Ashish, biting him on his leg, and subsequently attacking his face. Despite Ashish’s attempts to fend off the animal, the dog continued its assault, leaving him bleeding from his mouth, eyes, and lips.

Further victims of rampage

Following the attack on Ashish, the dog targeted a woman standing at the gate of her house. The dog bit her on the knee and leg, resulting in a deep wound that required several stitches. The violence didn’t end there; the dog then attacked two young girls who were playing outside their home.

Lack of medical

Ashish’s father, Vijay Yadav, reported that when he took his son to the district hospital for a rabies vaccine, he was informed that the hospital had run out of the vaccine. Residents have reported the stray dog menace to the municipal corporation, but no significant action has been taken so far.

Durgesh Mishra, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Gorakhpur, stated he was unaware of the specific incident and had not received any formal complaints. He noted that the municipal corporation runs regular sterilization campaigns for stray dogs and is constructing an Animal Birth Control Center. Moreover, awareness campaigns for pet dog vaccinations are conducted.
