A very surprising case has come to light from Kozhikode district of Kerala where a husband brutally attacked his newly married wife and tried unsuccessfully to kill her. After this the accused husband fled from the scene of the crime. Surprisingly, Interpol has issued a Blue Corner notice against the husband who attacked his wife. Police suspect that the accused, Rahul P Gopal, a resident of Kozhikode district, might have fled to Germany where he currently works.

Police action in this matter

Confirming the matter, a senior Kozhikode city police officer told PTI that a Blue Corner Notice has been issued against one of the attackers, the husband. Which became effective from Thursday. The police officer further said that after committing the crime, the accused has fled to Germany, because he also works there. He is an NRI. Giving more information in this regard, the police officer said that the police had sent a request to Interpol through the Ministry of External Affairs to issue a Blue Corner Notice against the accused. Recognizing the same, Interpol issued this notice against him.

Blue Corner Notice against the accused

Blue Corner Notices are issued by Interpol, the international police cooperation body, to collect additional information from its member countries about the identity, location or activities of a person in connection with a crime. The Blue Corner Notice has come in the wake of a lookout circular. It was issued by the police against the accused Rahul P Gopal. Last Tuesday, the bride and her family came forward and made serious allegations against the accused Rahul. Which were also broadcast on some TV channels.

Reason behind assault

The victim alleged that he started demanding dowry barely a week after their marriage on May 5. There was a dispute between them regarding this matter and accused Rahul brutally beat his wife. Not only this, the accused also tried to kill her. However, now the bride's in-laws have denied the allegation that they had demanded dowry. However, the mother of accused Rahul P Gopal had claimed that her daughter-in-law was refusing to live in the matrimonial home and this led to an argument between the couple and later a fight. The woman said that she never demanded dowry because she did not need it.

Investigation is underway

Apart from the police action, the Kerala Women Commission (KWC) and the State Human Rights Commission are also looking into the issue and have sought a report from the investigating agency. KWC had also criticized the police for reportedly not taking the woman's complaint seriously in the beginning. The woman had alleged that the police had not registered a case of attempt to murder in Pantheerankavu, even though her complaint had clearly stated that her husband had tried to strangulate her with a mobile phone charging cable. He and his family had also alleged that the police had tried to solve the case. Following intense criticism of the police from all quarters, including the Congress-led UDF opposition, a new investigation team was formed to probe the case.
