Several miscreants targeted the Mahabodhi Express with a violent stone-throwing attack on Monday night, leaving several passengers injured. The incident occurred while the train, en route from New Delhi to Gaya, was passing near the Yamuna Bridge, shortly after departing from Prayagraj Junction at 8:45 PM. Reports from Jagran.com indicated that around 50 to 60 stones were hurled at the train, with some breaking through the windows of the S-3 coach, causing panic among the passengers.

Passenger panic and injuries

One of the injured, Sujit Kumar from Begusarai, recounted that he was seated by the window when stones began pelting the train. He sustained serious injuries to his head and neck. Several other passengers were also wounded in the incident. Amidst the chaos, passengers scrambled in fear to find safety within the coach.

Immediate response and subsequent action

The loco pilot promptly halted the train, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on board attempted to confront the attackers, but the miscreants fled the scene. Following the attack, RPF Sub-Inspector SP Saroj and his team from Prayagraj Junction launched a search operation, ultimately detaining three suspects. The train was halted at Mirzapur station, where injured passengers received medical aid and their statements were recorded.

Railway administration's reaction

Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, Shashikant Tripathi, condemned the attack and affirmed that the railway administration is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, instructing the RPF to take strict action.

Rising trend of train sabotage

This incident is part of a troubling trend in recent days, with several attempts to sabotage train services across the country, including placing explosive devices and iron rods on tracks. Two separate incidents in Kanpur involved efforts to derail trains by placing gas cylinders on the railway tracks.
