In the light of prevailing law and order, the Manipur government on Wednesday declared the entire state of Manipur as disturbed area, except 19 police stations.19 police stations which are excluded from the list are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Sekmai, Lamsang, Patsoi, Wangoi, Porompat, Heingang, Lamlai, Irilbung, Leimakhong, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Nambol, Moirang, Kakching, and Jiribam.The notification issued by the government said that the “violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups warrant the use of the Armed Forces in aid of civil administration in the entire state of Manipur.”It further states, in the view of the “overall law and order situation in the state and the capability of the state machinery, the state government has decided to maintain the status quo on the present disturbed area status” …for a period of six months.It is to be noted here that the notification from the state government came after the killing of two students in the state that got viral on the social media a couple of days back. Meanwhile, the state government has also shared a press release which states that “State police, in collaboration with the central security agencies, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and to identify the perpetrators who murdered the two students. The security forces have also started the search operation to nab the perpetrators.”The notification further says, “In response to this distressing situation, the government assures the public that swift and decisive action will be taken against all those involved in the kidnapping and killing of Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.
