Stalin called Nagpur plan disastrous
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday termed the National Education Policy as the disastrous Nagpur plan and reiterated that the state will not accept it even if the Centre provides Rs 10,000 crore. "Yesterday you must have seen the parliamentary proceedings on television. He is arrogantly saying that Rs 2,000 crore will be given to Tamil Nadu only if Hindi and Sanskrit are accepted. Who? It was Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan," Stalin had said while addressing a government function at Chengalpet near Chennai.
What allegations did Stalin make?
He said that the state is opposing the National Education Policy because it will completely destroy the development of education in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister alleged that instead of bringing students into the ambit of education, NEP has made a plan to take them away from education. He criticized this NEP for establishing the dominance of the central government in the matter of education and listed many reasons for opposing it.
The CM said the reasons for opposing NEP were communalism entering education, privatisation of education, creating a situation where only the rich can access higher education, public exams even for young children, entrance exams like NEET for arts, science and engineering courses, etc. It is only after considering all these factors that Tamil Nadu is adamant that it will not accept NEP, Stalin said.
Stalin said Pradhan blackmailed the state
He reiterated his allegation that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan blackmailed the state to accept the NEP. The chief minister said he had already made it clear that Tamil Nadu would not accept it. "I had said in clear terms that we will not accept your disastrous Nagpur plan even if you provide Rs 10,000 crore (more than the approximately Rs 2,000 crore due to the state). I am saying the same here again," Stalin said.
