New Delhi: A shocking incident has emerged from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, where a man has been caught on camera brutally assaulting his elderly parents on the streets. The disturbing video, which has widely surfaced on social media, shows Mohammad Ashraf Wani physically attacking his parents, Taja Begum and Ghulam Ahmad Wani. The footage has led to widespread public outrage and demands for stringent action against the perpetrator.

Reason for assault remains unclear

The exact reasons behind the violent assault and Mohammad's refusal to allow his parents into his home for the past year are still unclear. The situation came to light when Taja Begum, one of the victims, approached the police on Saturday and filed a formal complaint. She has reported the ongoing abuse and her desperate situation, drawing the authorities' attention to their plight.

FIR registered against accused

Following the viral spread of the video and Taja's complaint, the local police have taken significant action. Mohammad Ashraf Wani has been booked under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation). A formal case, FIR number 77 of 2024, has been registered at the Nowgam police station.
