In a tragic incident in Indore, two young women lost their lives after being hit by a speeding BMW. The initial police investigation revealed that the driver, in a rush to deliver a birthday cake to his friend, drove recklessly in the wrong direction.

The main accused, Gajendra Pratap Singh (28), was arrested following a police search operation. He fled the scene after the accident, which took place in the Khajrana area of Indore on Sunday night. According to The Indian Express, Singh hails from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, but was residing in Indore's Suncity area.

"The preliminary investigation suggests the driver was in a hurry to deliver a cake for his friend’s birthday, leading him to drive in the wrong direction," stated Assistant Commissioner of Police Kundan Mandloi.

Singh, who works at a BPO in Indore, had purchased the BMW second-hand some time ago. He has been charged under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

How the incident unfolded?

The victims, Lakshmi Tomar (24) and Diksha Jadon (25), were returning home on a scooter after attending a Ganesh temple fair in Khajrana. Around 11:30 PM on Sunday, the speeding BMW, which was being driven against traffic, crashed into their scooter.

"Eyewitnesses reported that the BMW hit the scooter head-on, throwing both women onto the road. They sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries," said Khajrana police station in-charge, Manoj Singh Sendhav, in a statement to PTI.

The incident has deeply affected the victims' families. Lakshmi, the sole breadwinner of her family after her father's death last year, was originally from Shivpuri and had been working in Indore to support her family. Diksha, a resident of Gwalior, was employed at a public sector bank in the city.
