West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a stern directive in response to the recent incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where a medical student has been raped and brutally murdered. During a press briefing, Banerjee emphasized the urgency of the situation and called for immediate action.

While addressing media on Monday, Banerjee stated firmly, underscoring the gravity of the case, "I want the police to arrest the accused as early as possible.” The Chief Minister made it clear that the state government expects swift justice, setting a clear deadline for law enforcement. "If the police are unable to solve this case by Sunday, then we will not keep this case in our hands; we will hand it over to the CBI," she warned.

She further said, "The day I got to know about the incident from Kolkata Police Commissioner, I told him that it is a sad incident and immediate action should be taken," Banerjee revealed. She emphasized the need for urgency, advocating for the establishment of a fast-track court to expedite justice.

Expressing her bewilderment, Banerjee said, "There were nurses and security, I am still unable to understand how this incident took place." She also noted that police had informed her about the presence of an individual inside the hospital at the time of the incident.
