Singer Sona Mohapatra criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday for his recent comments criticizing Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya last month. In a string of tweets, Mohapatra criticized the practice of politicians using women as props for political benefit and stood up for Aishwarya Rai against what she saw as disrespectful remarks.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a comment about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, during a political rally in 2020. Gandhi's comment was about Bachchan's attendance at the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Gandhi questioned the presence of certain individuals at the event, insinuating their disconnect from the broader population.

"Television channels only show Aishwarya Rai dancing. They don't show anything about the poor people," Rahul Gandhi said in one of the speeches.

It is to be noted here that Aishwarya Rai was not present at the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. However, her husband Abhishek Bachchan and actor Amitabh Bachchan were present.

BJP calls it 'Insult to Kannadiga'

The BJP in Karnataka hit out at Rahul Gandhi after his demeaning remarks on Aishwarya Rai. Questioning the chief minister Siddharamaiah, “as your boss continues to insult a fellow Kannadiga, will you uphold your professed Kannada pride & speak out against such disrespect, or will you remain silent to safeguard your CM Chair?”

The remarks from Rahul Gandhi during ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ has sparked another controversy.
