New Delhi: In a devastating accident on Thursday, four Indian Army personnel lost their lives when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge while traveling from Pedong, West Bengal, to Zuluk in Sikkim's Pakyong district. The tragic incident took place at Vertical Veer, near Dalopchand Dara along the Rhenock-Rongli state highway, commonly referred to as the Silk Route. The vehicle fell approximately 700 to 800 feet down a steep gorge, according to officials.

The deceased soldiers have been identified as driver Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh, craftsman W Peter from Manipur, Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana, and Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu. All of them were part of a unit stationed in Binaguri, West Bengal. The Indian Army and local authorities responded swiftly to the incident, but unfortunately, none of the personnel could be saved. 

The challenging terrain and steep drop posed significant difficulties in rescue operations. This tragic accident has cast a shadow over the Indian Army, with condolences pouring in from across the country for the brave soldiers who lost their lives while serving the nation.
