Madhya Pradesh: A bloody twist has been given to the murder of Chhattisgarh journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, whose body was found in a septic tank on January 3. Before his killing, Mukesh had reportedly made some investigative reports related to a road project, where corruption worth ₹120 crores was alleged.
28-year-old reporter Mukesh Chandrakar was the first person to expose how a contractor in the name of Suresh Chandrakar had inflated the amount of ₹ 120 crore and increased the rates without any variation in the scope of the road project. Mukesh's expose even demanded an investigation by the state government, which had already ruffled up the contractor lobbies in this town.
January 1 had crossed, and neither the journalist turned up. But this created shock waves immediately. Suresh's cousin, Ritesh, had invited Mukesh and Suresh Chandrakar for a meeting. Mukesh never spoke again. His phone was dead. His brother, Yukesh, is also a journalist, and a missing person complaint was filed. Within two days, Mukesh's body was found dead in the septic tank on Suresh's land in Bijapur, dumped with multiple injuries.
While leading the probe into the case, the police have taken into their custody two primary accused—Ritesh and Dinesh Chandrakar, who were related to the Chandrakar family. Suresh Chandrakar is in running even now. Investigation Report of the Mukesh seemed to be well-connected with Mukesh's sudden death, said police. Actually, Mukesh was very friendly to Ritesh, and his relationship later turns sour after Mukesh was said to be exposing some corrupt malpractices within that group of his close acquaintance.
A sit-in at the road saw journalists today across the region demanding justice after the murder of Mukesh. The angry crowd demanded the suspension of the police superintendent of Bijapur and the immediate arrest of Suresh Chandrakar. Protesters demanded capital punishment for those responsible and appealed to the authority to close the properties of the accused with the bank account. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also condemned the incident and stated that justice will be brought to the accused. A Special Investigation Team is formed. The verdict, this time round, Mukesh Chandrakar will get his justice.
