Shocking: Kolkata constable shot himself dead, was depressed over prolonged illness

In a shocking incident, a constable of Kolkata police shot himself dead using his service revolver while he was on his way to join duty on Monday.

According to sources, 53-year-old Tapan Paul, a resident of Bengal’s Nadia district was posted in the D company of the reserve force of Kolkata police.

Reportedly, Tapan shot himself in his chest at 8:05 pm, while he was on the way to Calcutta High Court to take up the charge of night duty. He was immediately taken to Kolkata police hospital by his colleagues where he succumbed to his injuries, as per the doctors.

This tragic incident happened in the Khadya Bhawan premises of the city.

Meanwhile, the police sources claim that Tapan was suffering from neurological problems and was depressed due to his physical illness for a long time. He was even transferred to the reserve force due to his health-related problems.

However, no suicide note has been found yet.

Following this incident, a case of unnatural death has been lodged. Further, investigation is underway.
