In a disturbing turn of events in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, a Dalit groom faced violence as his wedding procession traversed through a locality dominated by an upper-caste community. The incident, which occurred on the night of May 20, has sparked outrage and calls for justice. As the Dalit baraat proceeded through the upper-caste neighborhood, tension escalated, leading to a violent confrontation.

Allegedly, some individuals from the upper-caste community unleashed a brutal assault on the groom and his wedding guests. They resorted to firing guns, wielding knives, and attacking with sheer aggression.

Reports indicate that the assailants targeted the groom, vandalizing his horse-drawn carriage and throwing it into a drain. The groom himself was subjected to physical assault, while the wedding guests bore the brunt of the attackers' fury. Shockingly, the attackers even looted the groom's possessions, including a gold chain, adding insult to injury.

Police register case under Atrocity Act

After the harrowing ordeal, a case has been registered under the Atrocity Act against the accused. The groom's brother, acting on behalf of the affected family, lodged a complaint with the authorities. However, a counterclaim has also been filed, alleging misbehavior by the wedding guests, which the police are now investigating.

Chaos unleashed

Not content with assaulting the groom and guests, the aggressors also turned their ire towards the wedding DJ and his equipment. They destroyed disco lights and sound systems, escalating the chaos and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

The violence, fueled by animosity over the procession route, underscores deep-seated societal tensions. Names of alleged assailants have surfaced, including individuals who reportedly resorted to firing weapons to intimidate the wedding procession. Prompt police intervention helped diffuse the situation, allowing the procession to proceed under heightened security measures.
