Rajasthan: A 75-year-old former bureaucrat from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) was severely thrashed by a bus conductor in Jaipur over an argument about ₹10 extra fare. Video footage of the assault has now surfaced, depicting the 75-year-old retired bureaucrat as he is punched and hit several times by the conductor. This video has since circulated, prompting an investigation by Jaipur City Police while the Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) suspended the conductor immediately.

The fight that turned violent

The incident happened on Friday when retired IAS officer RN Meena was traveling on a bus from Jaipur to Nayla. Meena had decided to get down at Kanota bus stand on Agra Road. However, the conductor did not inform him that the bus had reached his stop and continued further to Nayla, said Kanota Station House Officer (SHO) Uday Singh.

As Nayla was reached, the conductor demanded an extra ₹10 for the unintended additional distance. Meena refused to pay, which led to an argument. It soon turned hot, and the conductor, who has been identified as Ghanshyam Sharma, pushed the old officer. The old officer, in turn, slapped the conductor, and there was a fight in which Sharma was seen thrashing the retired officer time and again.

Police action and investigation

After the incident took place, a formal complaint at the Kanota police station had been filed. SHO Uday Singh confirmed there was an FIR against Sharma on record. The video of this incident has gone viral. We are seeking additional details of the incident with JCTSL, said one official. The authorities have sent teams to arrest the conductor and interrogate the accused. In the meantime, JCTSL has condemned the incident in strong words and promised immediate disciplinary action.

Public anger and social media backlash

The video has gone viral on social media, and people are demanding severe action against the conductor. The case also brings into question the safety of passengers and the behavior of public transport employees in Jaipur.
