Shimla Protest (ANI)

A large crowd gathered outside the Sanjauli Masjid in Shimla on Thursday, protesting against the alleged illegal construction of the mosque. The demonstration, which included local residents, BJP workers, and members of Hindu organisations, called for immediate action, accusing the authorities of inaction despite the mosque being built over a decade ago.

Demands for Mosque Demolition

Protesters, waving the Tricolour, raised slogans against the illegal structure. Ankush Chauhan, a BJP worker, led the charge, demanding the mosque's demolition. “This mosque has been built illegally. All four floors are illegal. If we construct anything illegally, it is immediately demolished. It has been 10 years, but no action has been taken,” said Chauhan, urging authorities to act swiftly.

He emphasised that the protest transcended party politics, representing a collective stand by the Hindu community. “This has nothing to do with the BJP or Congress. The Hindu Samaj is standing against this. Our anger stems from the recent attack on a Hindu brother by some Muslim men on Tuesday, resulting in injuries,” he added.

Concerns About Growing Migrant Population

Anirudh Singh, a state minister, addressed concerns regarding the increasing number of migrants in Himachal Pradesh. While acknowledging that the Muslim community has lived peacefully in the state for generations, Singh expressed concern about the influx of people from other states. He stressed the need for thorough verification to avoid potential security risks, stating, “The issue isn’t about Hindus or Muslims, but ensuring that all new arrivals are properly vetted.”

He also urged an investigation into foreign nationals entering the state, emphasising the Congress government's commitment to legal processes and regional safety. Singh concluded, "This isn’t about temples or mosques but about legal versus illegal constructions."

Political Tensions Rise

The controversy has sparked a political debate in Himachal Pradesh, with both BJP and Congress leaders blaming each other for the state of affairs.
