In a horrifying incident in East Delhi's Kalyanpuri area, a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death and injured their teenage son, who tried to protect her. The accused later attempted suicide after fleeing the scene. Police have identified the accused as Sanju, a resident of Khichripur.

According to a statement from the Delhi Police, the incident occurred on November 19. Sanju, reportedly intoxicated, demanded money from his wife, Geeta (35), to purchase alcohol. When Geeta refused, an enraged Sanju attacked her with a knife.

Son's brave intervention ends in injury

As the altercation escalated, the couple’s 14-year-old son, Raj, stepped in to save his mother. Unfortunately, Sanju also stabbed Raj, causing a serious chest injury. Both Geeta and Raj were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where Geeta underwent surgery for severe abdominal wounds and was placed on ventilator support. Despite medical efforts, Geeta succumbed to her injuries. Raj, after receiving initial treatment, was discharged.

Following the incident, Sanju fled the scene, leaving behind his mobile phone. Police began an immediate manhunt using local informants and technical surveillance. The search led them to Sanju's ancestral village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. There, he attempted suicide to evade arrest. Local residents intervened, saving his life, and he was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Apoorva Gupta, confirmed that Sanju is under medical supervision and will be taken into custody upon discharge.
