New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the petition of Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, against a Calcutta High Court order that called for a CBI investigation into a graft case involving him.

The apex court ruled that Ghosh lacks the legal standing (locus) to intervene in the public interest litigation (PIL) that alleged financial misconduct during his tenure at the medical institution. The Calcutta High Court had earlier ordered the probe, pointing to irregularities that warranted further investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Despite not opposing the investigation itself, Ghosh raised objections to specific observations made against him by the Calcutta High Court. He expressed discontent over what he termed as unjust remarks that linked him to a rape incident at RG Kar Medical College.

The Supreme Court, however, dismissed his petition, maintaining that his concerns did not qualify for intervention in a case rooted in public interest. The investigation will proceed as directed by the Calcutta High Court.
