After the announcement that was made by the Central government for placing the ‘Sengol’ sceptre has initiated a war of words among the opposition parties and Centre. According to the claims made by Union Minister Amit Shah, the ‘Sengol’ is a symbol of the transfer of power.

Taking the jibe over the decision of keeping the ‘Sengol’ in the new Parliament building, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hits out at the Central government. Taking it to Twitter, Yadav wrote, “Sengol is a symbol of the transfer of power (from one hand to another)… BJP seems to have accepted that the time has come to hand over power.”

About the general election of next year, when the BJP would run for an unprecedented third consecutive term, the ex-chief minister of Uttar Pradesh claimed that the usage of the word “Sengol” suggested the party had “accepted” loss. The leader of the Congress disputed the assertions made by the government regarding the “Sengol” are typically false narratives.

Whereas, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also lashed out at the Centre saying that they are presenting a false narrative over ‘Sengol’. He said that they have no evidence for proving the same.

Between the war of words, Union Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of hating the Indian Culture and traditions.

“Why does the Congress party hate Indian traditions and culture so much?”

“A sacred Sengol was given to Pandit Nehru by a holy Saivite Mutt from Tamil Nadu to symbolize India’s freedom but it was banished to a museum as a ‘walking stick’,” the home minister tweeted.
