Following a tragic stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station that claimed 18 lives, authorities have implemented stringent security measures to manage the heavy passenger influx, especially with the Maha Kumbh drawing crowds to Prayagraj. Delhi Police, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), have increased their presence to ensure passenger safety and prevent further incidents.
Law enforcement has set up barricades, increased patrolling, and deployed quick reaction teams to manage the crowds and prevent further incidents. CCTV surveillance has been enhanced, with control rooms monitoring real-time footage for crowd control. The security personnel are also using loudspeakers to make continuous announcements regarding train arrivals and departures to guide commuters and avoid panic.

Northern Railway has decided that all special trains heading to Prayagraj will now operate exclusively from platform number 16 to alleviate congestion. This change aims to streamline passenger movement and reduce the risk of overcrowding. Travelers wishing to board these trains are advised to access the station from the Ajmeri Gate side. Regular train services will continue to run from all other platforms as per usual schedules.
Indian Railways has taken steps to support the families of the deceased and injured, allocating an ex-gratia payment of 10 lakh rupees to the families of the deceased3. Those who sustained serious injuries will receive 2.5 lakh rupees, while passengers with minor injuries will be compensated with 1 lakh rupees. A two-member high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Following the Delhi stampede, heightened security measures have been implemented at major railway stations in Uttar Pradesh, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Ayodhya. Strict protocols are being enforced, such as restricting vehicle entry, placing barriers at key locations, and deploying additional security personnel.
