Farmers from the villages surrounding Noida announced that they would be staging a demonstration in front of Parliament House in Delhi on Thursday. The protest has been called for increased land compensation as well as better rehabilitation facilities for their families in response to the land that has been taken over the previous 40 years for urban development.

According to the sources, farmers will ride buses, tractors, and other vehicles into the nation's capital. Around noon on Thursday, the demonstrators want to assemble at the Mahamaya flyover, which marks the start of the Noida-Greater Noida Motorway, and march in the direction of Delhi.

Reason for Section 144:

Farmer groups in Noida and Greater Noida have been protesting since December 2023, demanding increased compensation and developed plots for land acquired by local authorities.

They planned a ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ on February 7 and a protest march to Parliament in Delhi on February 8.

To maintain peace and order and prevent potential disruptions, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police imposed Section 144, restricting unlawful assembly of more than five people and unauthorized processions.

Key restrictions under Section 144:

  • Gathering of more than five people in public places is prohibited.
  • Carrying weapons or inflammatory materials is illegal.
  • Using loudspeakers or amplifiers without permission is not allowed.
  • Organizing or participating in unauthorized processions is banned.
