New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday in connection with a corruption case linked to the alleged excise policy "scam". A 3-Judge bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna will preside over the proceedings.

Sisodia, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seeks to revive an earlier bail petition that was disposed of by the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy cases.

Delhi court extended judicial custody

Last week, a Delhi court extended Sisodia's judicial custody until July 15. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended his custody after he appeared in court following the expiry of his earlier judicial custody.

Urgent hearing before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Sisodia, pressed for an urgent hearing before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, citing delays in the trial commencement in the Liquor Policy case.

Sisodia's bail plea dismissed

In May, the Delhi High Court had dismissed Sisodia's bail plea, criticizing him for allegedly manipulating public opinion and deviating from expert committee recommendations in formulating the excise policy. The court's observations highlighted accusations of betraying democratic principles and public trust.
