Amid the rift in the political parties over the ‘Sanatan Dharma’ remarks, the top court on Friday sought responses from the Tamil Nadu government and Udhayanidhi Stalin, the state minister for youth welfare and sports development and son of chief minister MK Stalin over his comment against the idea of social justice and that it must be eradicated.

 The statement from the Supreme Court has come to a petition that sought the registration of an FIR against Udhayanidhi.

In addition to this notice has also been issued to MP A Raja, MP Thirumavalavan, MP Su Venkatesan, Tamil Nadu DGP, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, Union Home Ministry, Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowment Department PK Sekar Babu, Chairman of Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission Peter Alphonse and others in connection with the FIR.

According to the sources, a bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi asked about the context of the remarks, the advocate appearing for Chennai-based lawyer B Jagannath who filed the plea, said, “They have called for eradication of a faith, in an institution.”

The please was filed through advocate Gopalan, who sought intervention to not allow Udhayanidhi Stalin and others to make remarks on ‘Sanatan Dharma.’

Notably, the remarks on ‘Sanatan Dharma’ by DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin during an event ignited a massive political controversy in the country.

Meanwhile, some of the eminent citizens wrote a letter to CJI stating to take suo moto action in the hate speeches without waiting for the formal complaints.
