The State Bank of India (SBI) has filed an affidavit in compliance with the Supreme Court's directives in the electoral bonds case, submitting all relevant details. It includes unique alpha-numeric codes associated with the bonds.

The Supreme Court had instructed the SBI to disclose comprehensive information regarding electoral bonds, including the unique bond numbers, which connect the buyers with the political parties receiving the funds.

CJI orders to disclosure of relevant details

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, leading a five-judge Constitution bench, emphasized the necessity for SBI to provide complete disclosure of all relevant details at its disposal.

The Election Commission is anticipated to release the data shortly. Earlier on March 11, the SBI, despite seeking an extension until June 30 to disclose electoral bonds details, faced rigorous questioning from the Supreme Court regarding its compliance with the court's orders.

SC had released show cause notice

Last Friday, the Supreme Court reprimanded the SBI for submitting incomplete information and issued a notice to the bank, seeking clarification on the reasons for not disclosing the unique alpha-numeric numbers.

During Monday's hearing, senior advocate Harish Salve, representing the SBI, assured the bench that the bank has no reservations about disclosing all electoral bond details in its possession.

To ensure full compliance with the court's orders and prevent future disputes, the bench directed the Chairman and Managing Director of SBI to submit an affidavit by Thursday, March 21, confirming the disclosure of all electoral bond details without any omissions.
