While addressing a group of unemployed youth who had approached her for job opportunities, Rathore posed a provocative question: “Were you born asking the government to provide everything for you?” This comment has since gone viral on social media, inciting widespread criticism and backlash from frustrated job seekers.

Public outcry over government's role

The viral video has prompted many to question the government's role in addressing the needs of its citizens. Social media users are asking, “If the government doesn’t prioritise public welfare, then what is its purpose?” The youth had gathered in protest due to the lack of recruitment in the department, expressing their frustrations over a prolonged wait for job openings. During this encounter, one young man tearfully conveyed his plight, lamenting that his age was slipping away while he awaited an opportunity. Rathore's response, questioning the entitlement of the youth, has further fueled the anger among the unemployed.

Who is IAS Gaayatri Rathore?

Gaayatri Rathore is a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who joined the Medical and Health Department just last month. Before this role, she served as the Principal Secretary for the Department of Tourism, Art, Literature, Culture, and Archaeology. Additionally, she held the position of Director-General at the Jawahar Kala Kendra. Her extensive experience includes prior roles in the General Administration Department, Cabinet, State Motor Garage and Civil Aviation, and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. Rathore is recognised as one of Rajasthan’s most dynamic officials.
