In the viral video, Yati Narsinghanand addresses a crowd while discussing the traditional practice of burning effigies during Dussehra. He controversially stated, “We burn Meghnad every year. A person of character like Meghnad was never born on this earth. We burn Kumbhakarna every year; a scientist-warrior like Kumbhakarna was never born on this earth, and after Kumbhakarna, such a person of character. And what was his fault?” His remarks took a more incendiary turn as he drew parallels between Ravana, who is burned in effigy for kidnapping Lord Rama’s wife Sita, and modern-day figures.
Yati Narsinghanand further escalated his rhetoric by claiming, “Ravana committed a small crime, and today, after millions of years, we still burn Ravana. Now, there are criminals in front of whom Ravana has no existence.” This comparison has been viewed as not only disrespectful but also deeply divisive, contributing to the unrest in the region.
