Amid the Sanatan Dharma row, an FIR has been lodged against Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over his controversial remarks, which caused a nationwide political uproar.

Case filed against Udhayanidhi Stalin over his Sanatan Dharma remarks in Mumbai

An FIR has been filed by Mumbai’s Mira Road police under the IPC (Indian Penal Code) sections 153 A and 295 A.

On Tuesday, a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) delegation in Tamil Nadu handed over a memorandum to the state police demanding the registration of an FIR against the DMK leader for hurting religious sentiments through his remarks on Sanatan Dharma.

This row sparked after Udhayanidhi railed against Sanatan Dharma, equating it with ‘dengue, malaria, fever, and corona’ while addressing a press conference in Chennai.

He then added that Sanatan Dharma should not be merely opposed but eradicated.

PM Modi on this row

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chairing a meeting of the Council of Ministers, weighed in on the furore around Udhayanidhi’s remarks, and, according to sources, asked his ministers to aggressively counter the attack on Sanatan Dharma.

Due to the controversy, the prime minister advised his ministers to counter the opposition’s narrative on the Sanatan Dharma with facts.

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin reacts to PM Modi’s stance

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that it was unfair for the prime minister to ‘make comments without knowing what Udhayanidhi spoke’ on the Sanatana Dharma.

The storm created by Sanatan Dharma created a political slugfest across the country. The political rival NDA and INDIA alliance are taking a potshot at each other after the DMK leader equated Sanatana Dharma with ‘mosquitoes, dengue, malaria, fever and corona.’

However, the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which are also part of the INDIA bloc, distanced themselves from the DMK leader amid this row.
