Maharashtra: YouTuber Samay Raina and social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija are set to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) via video conferencing on Monday. The summons follows widespread outrage over an episode of Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, where guest Ranveer Allahbadia made controversial remarks that triggered a public backlash and legal scrutiny. The NCW issued the summons on February 11 after Maharashtra Police filed a case over the offensive content. Multiple first information reports (FIRs) have also been lodged in Mumbai and Guwahati, escalating the controversy surrounding the episode.

Legal trouble mounts for Ranveer Allahbadia

Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, has yet to respond to the NCW’s summons. In light of the growing legal complications, he has approached the Supreme Court seeking the consolidation of multiple FIRs against him. Allahbadia also issued a public apology, acknowledging the harm his remarks caused. He further revealed that he has been receiving death threats in response to the controversy.

Producers and influencers under scrutiny

Along with Raina and Mukhija, several other prominent figures are set to appear before the NCW. Comedian Jaspreet Singh and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani have also been summoned, as well as India’s Got Latent producers Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra. The backlash erupted when Allahbadia’s comments went viral on social media, forcing Raina to remove the episode from YouTube. Expressing regret over the incident, Raina posted, “This has been too much for me to handle. I will cooperate fully with the authorities.”

Apoorva Mukhija already questioned by Mumbai police

Apoorva Mukhija, known for her outspoken persona on social media, has already recorded her statement with Mumbai Police. Often referred to as the Rebel Kid, she assured her full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. With multiple figures now embroiled in legal proceedings, the case continues to draw significant public attention. The NCW’s inquiry will play a crucial role in determining the next course of action in the controversy.
