In a significant breakthrough, Mumbai Police apprehended a woman in West Bengal's Nadia district on Monday in connection with the shocking attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Sources revealed that the arrested woman has ties to Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi national already in custody for the incident.

SIM card leads to arrest

The investigation revealed that the SIM card used by Fakir, who was arrested in Mumbai earlier, was registered under the woman’s name. Acting on this lead, a two-member Mumbai Police team arrived in West Bengal on Sunday and tracked the suspect to Chapra in the Nadia district. The woman, identified as Khukhumoni Jahangir Sheikh, is suspected to have assisted Fakir, who had illegally entered India via the India-Bangladesh border near Siliguri.

Connection with the crime

Sheikh, a resident of Andulia in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, is believed to have been in contact with Fakir following his illegal entry. Authorities are now planning to request a transit remand to transfer her to Mumbai for further questioning and legal proceedings, according to sources within the West Bengal Police.

Details of attack

The horrific attack occurred on January 16 at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai. The actor was stabbed six times in a premeditated assault. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent spinal and plastic surgery to treat his injuries. Saif Ali Khan was discharged on January 21 and is currently recovering.

Mumbai Police are intensifying their investigation to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and any additional links to the assault.
