Ayodhya, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is poised to host one of the largest religious ceremonies in recent years with the consecration of the new Ram temple on January 22. The event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will serve as the main officiant, along with various dignitaries and celebrities.
The affairs of the temple and the orchestration of the ceremony are being managed by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The ritual of imbuing the deity statues with life, known as Pran Pratishtha, will begin after noon and last about an hour, though festivities will commence in the morning.
The high-profile consecration will be broadcast live across India, and the trust has encouraged virtual participation. The central government has declared a half-day holiday for employees to facilitate attendance.
