In the early hours of Saturday, several coaches of the Sabarmati Express (Train number 19168), traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, derailed near Kanpur. The Indian Railways issued a statement confirming the incident, which took place around 3 AM in the block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station.

The derailment occurred on the holding line ahead of Govind Puri, near Kanpur. Despite the severity of the incident, no serious injuries have been reported among the passengers. According to the train driver, the derailment was likely caused by a boulder striking the engine, which led to significant damage to the engine's cattle guard.
