A rumor has been circulating about the murder of a woman in a mosque in Agra. This incident, which occurred about a week ago, has been distorted on social media, with people making various claims in the name of seeking justice for the woman. The deceased was a 38-year-old cleaner and volunteer at the mosque.

What was the incident?

The woman had been married for 20 years and had moved back to her maternal home two years after her marriage. During this time, she had a daughter who is now 18 years old. The woman was dedicated to cleaning the mosque every morning and served there voluntarily. The mosque where her body was found is in a relatively quiet area and is mainly visited by worshippers for prayers.

Agra police's clarification

As the rumors spread on Tuesday, many social media users claimed that the woman was a Hindu who had been raped and murdered in the mosque. This misinformation led the Agra Police to take action. They addressed the false claims on the platform X (formerly Twitter), stating: "The dead woman found in a mosque in the Tajganj police station area of Agra is a Muslim. Rape has not been confirmed in the investigation of the case. The claims being made on social media are false. Do not spread such misleading posts, otherwise legal action will be taken."
