The passage of the UCC Bill will mark the fulfillment of a major promise made by the BJP to the people of the state in the run-up to the 2022 Assembly polls. The decision to constitute a committee to prepare draft for the UCC was taken by the Dhami government in March 2022.On the other hand, there will probably be pyrotechnics between the opposition Congress and the ruling BJP during the Uttarakhand assembly session, which specifically called for the tabling of the bill. Congress MLAs betrayed their intentions on Monday, the opening day of the session, when they left a Business Advisory Committee meeting to voice their disapproval of the decision to forgo Question Hour.
