Update (July 31, 11:02 am): Western Railways on Monday has announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of deceased ASI Tikaram Meena who lost his life in Jaipur-Mumbai Express shooting incident. According to the officials, ₹15 lakhs will be given from Railway Surksha Kalyan Nidhi, ₹20,000 for funeral expenses, ₹15 lakhs as Death cum Retirement Gratuity, ₹65,000 as General Insurance Scheme.

In a statement, CPRO Western Railway said, “An unfortunate incident has been reported today in Mumbai-Jaipur Superfast Express. An RPF constable, Chetan Kumar opened fire on his colleague ASI Tikaram Meena and during the incident, three other passengers were also shot. According to a preliminary investigation, he opened fire using his official weapon. The accused has been arrested. The reason for the firing is not clear yet, we are investigating it”


Four people were shot dead in the firing incident inside the Jaipur Express train (12956). An official reported that an RPF constable shot and killed four people, including an assistant sub-inspector, on board a Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train that was travelling through Maharashtra on Monday.

The RPF ASI and three other railway passengers were killed shortly after 5 am by gunfire from the constable’s automatic pistol, according to the official. About 100 kilometres separate Palghar from Mumbai.

The accused has been arrested and brought to Borivali police station. Further details awaited.
