New Delhi: BJP MP Kiren Rijiju has introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha. Now it is expected to be discussed for the next eight hours. There is a possibility of a heated debate and uproar between the ruling NDA and opposition parties regarding this. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to its MPs so that they remain present in the House during the introduction of the bill.

NDA allies like JDU, TDP and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) have also announced their support to the government. On the other hand, the opposition alliance 'India' is ready to strongly oppose this bill. Congress, Samajwadi Party and other opposition parties have termed it against the Constitution and an attack on the rights of minorities. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has also appealed for a nationwide protest against the bill. The NDA is in a strong position in terms of numbers in the Lok Sabha, which has 293 MPs, while 272 votes are needed to pass the bill
