In a distressing incident, a 35-year-old man lost his life after falling into an open drain in Paschim Vihar, a residential area in outer Delhi. The event, captured on CCTV at A6, Paschim Vihar, shows a rickshaw puller standing beside his vehicle when he suddenly fell into the open drain, leading to his tragic death. The victim, identified as Sonu from Peeragarhi camp, had a history of epileptic seizures, as reported by his mother, Kiran. Open drains and sewers remain persistent issues in the national capital.

Electrocution death on waterlogged road in Rohini

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man was electrocuted on August 22 in Delhi’s Rohini area due to waterlogging on a road. The victim, Sanjay, was outside his home in Prem Nagar when he slipped into water that had accumulated on the road, leading to electrocution. Despite immediate assistance from a team that arrived on the scene, Sanjay was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Recurrent issues with civic maintenance

These incidents underscore ongoing problems with civic infrastructure and maintenance in Delhi. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has faced consistent criticism for its inadequate upkeep of drainage systems. Residents of Agar Nagar reported that this electrocution was the second such fatality in recent weeks caused by waterlogging. They have raised concerns about the lack of action by authorities despite repeated complaints each monsoon season.
