The weather department predicts a monsoon in Kerala in the next 24 hours, which could provide some relief to the people of North India in the coming days amidst the heat wave conditions that are engulfing the country, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius in most areas. Senior scientist Naresh Kumar of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says that the situation should improve after three days when the Bay of Bengal releases moisture into the atmosphere.

While speaking to ANI, IMD senior scientist Naresh Kumar said, "We have just issued heat wave to severe heat wave warning for Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha for 2 days. After 3 days, when moisture from the Bay of Bengal will arrive, the situation will improve... There are favorable conditions for monsoon, we expect monsoon to reach Kerala in the next 24 hours."

More rainfall predicted

IMD is predicting that over the next three to four days, favorable conditions will persist and Southwest monsoon will move forward to other regions. Apart from this, the IMD is also expecting more than average rainfall across the country. While Northwest India is predicted to get typical rainfall between 92% and 108% of the Long Period Average (LPA), Central and South Peninsular India are expected to receive rainfall surpassing 106% of the LPA. On the other hand, precipitation in Northeast India is expected to be below average, falling short of 94% of LPA.
