Rescue efforts underway after building collapse in Burari, leaves two dead, several trapped amidst rubble

New Delhi: In a devastating incident on Monday evening, two individuals lost their lives following the collapse of a four-storey building in the Burari area of Delhi. The police confirmed the fatalities as rescue operations continued at the site.

Rescue Operations Underway

Authorities have successfully rescued 12 individuals from the debris, with efforts ongoing to locate others who may still be trapped. The rescue teams comprise personnel from the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The building collapsed around 6:30 PM in Kaushik Enclave, Burari, with emergency services alerted shortly thereafter at 6:58 PM.

Government Response and Assurance

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi expressed her condolences regarding the incident and assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to those affected. She directed local authorities to expedite relief and rescue operations for anyone feared to be trapped under the rubble. In her statement on social media platform X, she remarked, "This incident of building collapse in Burari is extremely sad. I have spoken to the local administration to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations. All possible help will be provided to the affected people."

Allegations of Negligence

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari visited the site on Monday night and raised concerns about potential negligence leading to the collapse. He stated, "It was a 4-storey building and the construction was completed. The POP work for finishing was underway... As per the police reports, 20-22 people were trapped... 12 people have been rescued." Tiwari emphasized that there was "no doubt" about negligence being a factor in this tragic event. He added, "Whoever is responsible will not be spared," highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Condition of Victims

Tiwari also provided an update on the condition of those rescued, noting that while one girl child is in critical condition, others have been treated and are out of danger.
