New Delhi: The celebrations of Republic Day 2025, scheduled to take place on Sunday, have brought in a spate of traffic regulations and tight security arrangements into the national capital. Delhi Police has put out an advisory outlining the measures to enable the auspicious parade at Kartavya Path, scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.

Traffic restrictions in place

Strict traffic curbs have been put in place to facilitate the Republic Day parade. Entry into Delhi is restricted, with only essential vehicles allowed until the conclusion of the event. Key roads, including Kartavya Path, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Subhash Marg, are closed to vehicular traffic from Saturday evening and will remain so during the parade hours on Sunday.

The route of the parade will pass from Vijay Chowk, via Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and reach the Red Fort. Passengers are suggested to avoid those routes and schedule their travel appropriately. Passengers travelling to New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations should be prepared for potential delay and adjust the time to travel. The Metro services would continue as normal, and nothing else would impact because of these events.

Heightened security measures

Delhi Police has created a multi-tiered security apparatus with more than 15,000 people and 70 paramilitary companies, not to forget advanced surveillance technology. For the main celebrations at New Delhi district, AI-enabled cameras, Facial Recognition Systems, and high-resolution surveillance devices will track every step.

Drones, CCTV cameras, and FRS-equipped vehicles will provide real-time intelligence and enhance situational awareness. Vehicle checks at key border points and other strategic locations across the city will also be conducted by security personnel.

As many as 4,000 rooftop security points have been identified in New Delhi, North, and Central districts for full coverage. Parade participants will be given security stickers. In addition, 500 AI-enabled cameras are being installed on the route for the effective identification of potential threats.
