Republic Day 2024: Macron's gift for Indian students looking forward to study in France

On the occasion of Republic Day, Macron announced that France will be facilitating the visa process for any former Indian students who studied in France.

French President Emmanuel Macron being a chief guest on India's Republic Day unveiled plans to encourage more Indian students to pursue higher education in France. He stated that the ambitious goal of having more than 30,000 students in France by 2030.

Taking it to his X handle, Macron tweeted, "30,000 Indian students in France in 2030. It’s a very ambitious target, but I am determined to make it happen."

The French president in his tweet explained that how they are launching new pathways in order to learn French in public schools with the initiative "French for All, French for a Better Future". Along with developing the network of Alliances françaises, with new centers to learn French. 

Macron also mentioned how international classes have been created which will allow students to study. In addition to this, France will be facilitating the visa process for any former Indian students who studied in France.

The message further emphasized that France now has 35 universities in the QS ranking and about 15 in the Times higher education ranking.

Prior to this, the French embassy in India announced many initiatives in September 2023, including the introduction of a five-year Schengen visa for short stays in an effort to draw in more Indian students. The programmes fall under the category of people-to-people ties, which is one of the three pillars of the two nations' strategic cooperation.
