In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has brought an end to the contempt case against Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna, founders of Patanjali Ayurved. This decision comes as a major relief to the duo, who have faced legal challenges regarding their company's advertising practices.

The contempt case was initiated following allegations that Patanjali Ayurved violated court orders related to its advertisements. The controversy centered on claims that the company had made misleading statements about its products, which allegedly breached the Supreme Court's directives. The court's scrutiny of Patanjali's promotional activities led to increased tension for the founders.

While announcing the verdict, the court accepted the underataking from Patanjali to stop issuing misleading advertisements and other claims regaring Patanjali Ayurved Limited.

Notably, in 2022, the Indian Medical Association filed a petition with the Supreme Court against Ramdev and Patanjali for making disparaging remarks about modern medicine. The petition argued that Patanjali's advertisements, which claimed to offer miracle cures for lifestyle disorders and other illnesses, violated the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1954.

The court issued contempt notices to Ramdev and Balkrishna after advertisements continued to appear in newspapers, violating an undertaking given by the company in November of the previous year.

On August 6, the Supreme Court instructed IMA President Dr. RV Asokan to publish apologies in all major newspapers that featured his interview regarding his controversial remarks on the hearing about misleading advertisements in the top court.
