New Delhi: A notorious gangster from Maharashtra’s Nashik, found himself back in jail shortly after his release. Harshad Patankar organized a grand rally to celebrate his freedom, but the celebration quickly turned sour when a video of the event went viral on social media.
Patankar was jailed under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, and Dangerous Persons Act (MPDA). He was released from jail on July 23. To mark the occasion, his supporters arranged a car rally in Nashik, which started from Bethel Nagar and ended at Ambedkar Chowk.
In the rally, at least 15 two-wheelers participated with Patankar. He was waving to his supporters from the sunroof of a car. His supporters shared videos of the rally on social media with captions of 'comeback.' These videos quickly went viral.
The police, upon noticing the viral videos, acted immediately. Patankar, along with six of his aides, was arrested for holding the unauthorized rally and creating public disorder. The authorities deemed the rally as a public nuisance and a violation of the law.
Harshad Patankar is no stranger to the law. Multiple cases are registered against him, including charges of attempted murder, theft, and violence. The public reaction to the rally was mixed. While some of Patankar's supporters cheered his release, many citizens expressed concern over the audacity of the event.
