Maharashtra: A case has been registered against a deceased man for allegedly raping a minor girl in Thane district, Maharashtra, police officials confirmed on Monday. The complaint was filed based on the statement of the victim’s mother.
According to officials, an FIR was lodged on Saturday under Section 64 (1) (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. However, details regarding the accused’s death, including its timing and circumstances, have not been mentioned in the FIR.
Reports suggest that the accused befriended the 17-year-old girl, who lived in his neighborhood in Mumbra. Between June and August 2024, he allegedly sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Despite opposition from their families, the accused eventually married the minor girl.
The situation escalated when the girl became pregnant and gave birth to a child on February 14. The police are currently investigating all aspects of the case.
In another disturbing incident in Thane’s Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar region, a 22-year-old man was arrested for stalking a 17-year-old girl and circulating her private photographs.
According to police, the accused, identified as Raj Singh, had befriended the minor last year. He allegedly coerced her into sending explicit pictures via social media. When the girl refused to share further content, Singh began following her and later leaked her objectionable photographs to her friends, attempting to defame her.
Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered, and Singh has been taken into custody. Further investigations are underway.
