Maharashtra: On Friday, the Mumbai Police revealed that YouTuber and Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, has become unreachable. His phone was switched off, and his residence was found locked, prompting authorities to take further action. Allahbadia's sudden disappearance follows his failure to appear for questioning at the Khar Police Station after receiving a second summon. The questioning is part of an ongoing investigation into controversial remarks made by the YouTuber during an episode of the show "India’s Got Latent", where he asked a contestant about disturbing and obscene topics, including a remark about “watching parents have sex.”Earlier on Friday, Allahbadia approached the Supreme Court, seeking relief from multiple FIRs (First Information Reports) filed against him in various states. His lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, filed a petition requesting that the FIRs be consolidated and that anticipatory bail be granted to protect Allahbadia from any immediate legal action, particularly fearing a summons from the Guwahati Police, who are also investigating the same case.

Legal and police action intensifies

In response to the controversy, the Mumbai Police has already recorded statements from at least six individuals connected to the case. Meanwhile, the Cyber Cell has filed cases against over 30 individuals linked to the “India’s Got Latent” show. The police have been actively investigating the incident, with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell registering an FIR against several people involved in the show. The Guwahati Police, in addition to their own investigation, filed an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Samay Raina, all judges, including Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, accusing them of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.

Political and cultural reactions

In the wake of these events, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the FIR’s details and emphasized the obscenity charges. Furthermore, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar has ordered a detailed investigation by the cultural department into the ongoing controversy surrounding the show. Reports indicate that complaints were lodged regarding vulgar content in the show, especially considering the audience tickets sold without proper authorization.

The National Commission for Women takes action

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has intervened in the matter, calling in Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and other participants of the show for questioning. The NCW hearing is scheduled to take place on February 17 at their office in New Delhi.

Allahbadia apologizes for inappropriate remarks

The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s remarks on the YouTube show triggered a massive backlash. During the show, Allahbadia asked a contestant a shocking question about the size of his private parts and even made an offensive offer of Rs 2 crore in exchange for an inappropriate act. He then posed an equally disturbing question: “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?"Acknowledging the gravity of his words, Allahbadia later expressed regret, stating, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.” His apology, however, has not quelled the fury of social media users and authorities alike, with legal actions and investigations continuing to mount.
