In a tragic incident reminiscent of recent hit-and-run cases, a luxury BMW car allegedly driven by the daughter of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao ran over a 21-year-old man in Chennai on Monday evening. Identified as Surya, a painter, the victim succumbed to his injuries, while the driver, Madhuri, was promptly arrested by Chennai police. However, she was later released on station bail, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Details of the Tragedy

Citing information from Chennai Police, it was revealed that the speeding BMW struck the man, who was sleeping on a pavement, leading to his fatal injuries. The driver, along with another woman in the car, fled the scene immediately after the accident. Surya, the victim, was resting on a pavement in Besant Nagar when the luxury car hit him, causing his death.

Legal Action and Investigation

The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing Police has registered a case under section 304 A of the IPC, pertaining to causing death by negligence, which is a bailable offence. They have also issued summons to the owner of the car.

Seeking Justice for Surya

Reports indicate that while Madhuri left the scene swiftly, her companion engaged in arguments with bystanders who had gathered post-accident. Despite efforts to rush Surya to a hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Surya, who had been married for just eight months, has left behind grieving relatives and neighbors who have united at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station to demand justice. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, authorities identified the car as registered under the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group in Puducherry. Madhuri was taken into custody but later granted bail at the police station pending further legal proceedings.
