Rajya Sabha Elections 2024: The celebration in Uttar Pradesh's BJP office has begun and leaders and party workers can be seen, celebrating in Lucknow. BJP has secured victory on 8 of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in the state while, Samajwadi Party (SP) has won 2 of the 10 seats here.

Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, expressed his delight at the BJP's victory and congratulated the winning candidates.

Maurya expressed confidence in the BJP's success, stating that the momentum gained from the Rajya Sabha victory would carry forward into future elections at the state and national levels. He said, "We had been saying from the beginning that all 8 candidates of the BJP will win. All our 8 candidates have won today. I congratulate all the winning candidates."

Meanwhile, BJP member of the legislative council Mohsin Raza expressed optimism about the party's electoral prospects, emphasizing their readiness to win a significant number of seats in upcoming elections.

He said, "We knew that this would be the result. BJP was confident that we would win all 8 seats. I don't understand why the Opposition was dejected because they did not have to win." 

Congress wins 3 seats amid controversy in Karnataka

In parallel developments, the BJP also made gains in Karnataka, securing one out of four seats in contention. While Congress won three out of four seats. However, the election in Karnataka was marred by controversy as allegations of cross-voting surfaced, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

In response to the allegations of cross-voting in Karnataka, the BJP announced its intention to explore legal action against the MLAs. The party also indicated plans to file a complaint with the Speaker seeking the disqualification of the MLAs for violating the party whip.
