As Parliament resumed Thursday still reeling from an extraordinary security breach in the Lok Sabha chamber, tensions again boiled over amid opposition demands for a thorough investigation.

Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien called for an immediate discussion of Wednesday’s stunning incident in which two intruders burst yellow smoke bombs after leaping from the visitor's gallery. But an infuriated Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rapidly named and ejected O'Brien for “disorderly conduct” when the Bengal politician refused orders to leave.

"Derek O'Brien is named to leave the House immediately... Derek O'Brien says he will defy the Chair... Derek O'Brien says he will not respect the rules. This is a serious misconduct. This is a shameful incident," Dhankhar said

Chair reassures MPs as opposition continues to protests

Despite the dramatic expulsion, opposition MPs continued to call for Home Minister Amit Shah to explain the security failures in person on the floor of the Upper House following which the Rajya Sabha proceedings were then adjourned.

But prior to the shutdown, Chairman Dhankhar did confirm authorities have opened a high-level probe and filed police complaints over the unprecedented infiltration past multiple layers of Parliament security.

PM Modi meets ministers as arrests continue

The chaos comes a day after smoke flooded the Lok Sabha chamber and surrounding hallways when at least six conspirators, split into two groups with visitor credentials, managed to sneak in and deploy smokescreens.

Prime Minister Modi, who was away attending chief minister swearing-in ceremonies during the incident, met with senior ministers earlier Thursday to review the situation, officials stated.

So far, Delhi Police have arrested six suspects including the four infiltrators. The additional two suspects were named as Gurugram residents who provided shelter to the primary perpetrators. Other leads indicate a possible seventh fugitive suspect still at large.

Stringent charges over 'serious terror attack'

Police revealed the identities of the intruders as Sagar Sharma, D. Manoranjan, Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde - all charged with terror conspiracy and unlawful activities alongside violations of the penal code.

The harsh charges suggest authorities are treating the infiltration as an extremely serious breach with potential terror connections rather than harmless civil disobedience.

Opposition alleges BJP link to passes

The opposition, however, smells political foul play as details emerge on how the primary four suspects managed to receive actual visitor credentials and clearance to access Parliament’s inner sanctums.

Passes were reportedly obtained through a request to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla from BJP MP Prathap Simha. As per Simha’s account, two fathers approached him pleading for his son to witness Parliament proceedings as an educational experience. Opposition leaders now demand Simha face investigation as a potential co-conspirator.

Parliament fortifies security

In the meantime, Parliament has banned all visitors and restricted entry for non-essential staff like media as security protections bolster to prevent any repeat incidents. At least seven Lok Sabha employees have also faced suspensions over negligence enabling the breach.

The frightening debacle comes on the sensitive 22nd anniversary of an actual terror attack on the old Parliament complex - a shocking incident that left nine dead including eight security personnel.
