Gujarat high court takes suo motu cognizance in Rajkot gaming zone fire incident

Update: At least 27 persons were killed in a fire at TRP Game Zone in Rajkot on Saturday night, and the event was brought before the Gujarat High Court on Sunday on a suo motu basis. On Monday, May 27, the Gujarat High Court will hear arguments on the matter. According to the sources, the high court might make an order on the state's game zone.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi reach AIIMS, Rajkot to meet the injured of the TRP Gaming Zone fire incident.  

 


Rajkot game zone tragedy: 27, including 4 children killed; heart wrenching visuals surface; SIT formed

Authorities have reported that the number of people killed in the fire tragedy at a Rajkot gaming zone had risen to 27, which also includes 4 children, as of Sunday. One person is still missing. A large fire broke out in a gaming area in Rajkot, Gujarat on May 25, in the evening.

Heart-wrenching videos of families of victims have surfaced from the incident spot.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed for the investigation.

While speaking to the media, Sanghvi said, “SIT has been instructed to start the investigation by 3 am... all officials of those depts under which the responsibility of game zone construction lies, have been instructed to be present at the Collector's office by 3 am today. All types of investigations will begin today itself and soon action will be taken to serve justice.”

Meanwhile, two, including the owner and manager of the TRP game zone in Rajkot, have been detained for interrogation into the fire incident at the gaming facility. According to officials, the fire broke out at around 4.30 pm.

Union Minister Amit Shah has expressed condolence on the incident. Taking it to the official X handle, he wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Taking swift note of the tragedy, the Gujarat Director General of Police has instructed the Commissioner of Police and District Superintendents of Police to inspect all the gaming zones in the state. He has directed the officials to close the game zone center without a fire safety system.
