New Delhi: In a recent incident in Rajasthan, a 35-year-old man has been detained at Jaipur airport for allegedly divorcing his wife via triple talaq over the phone while he was working in Kuwait. He is also accused of marrying a Pakistani woman, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.Divorce via phoneThe man, identified as Rehman, had been working in Kuwait when he used the controversial practice of triple talaq to divorce his wife over the phone. According to police reports, Rehman, who had met Mehwish, the Pakistani woman, through social media, married her in Saudi Arabia. Mehwish entered India on a tourist visa and is currently residing with Rehmans parents in Churu.Legal action Deputy SP (SC/ST Cell) Ranveer Singh stated that Farida Bano, 29, from Bhadra in Hanumangarh, filed an FIR against Rehman last month. She accused him of dowry harassment and of divorcing her through triple talaq. Following the complaint, Rehman was detained by police upon his arrival at Jaipur airport from Kuwait on Monday. After preliminary questioning, he was formally arrested the next day.Rehman and Farida Bano were married in 2011 and have two children.
