Rajasthan News: A recent video showing a lab attendant conducting an electrocardiogram (ECG) on a patient after learning the procedure from a YouTube tutorial has stirred controversy in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The incident took place at the Satellite Hospital in Paota, where the attendant was seen following the tutorial on his phone while administering the scan on a patient.

Video sparks outrage as attendant ignores requests for qualified staff

In the viral video, the lab attendant appeared unbothered by the patient and his family's repeated requests for a doctor or certified medical personnel. Instead, he continued with the ECG while intently watching the YouTube guide, disregarding the patient’s concerns. The video, now widely shared across social media, highlights what many are calling an alarming breach of medical protocol.

A witness who filmed the video claimed that the nursing staff was complicit in the incident, sparking concerns about inadequate staffing and training in the hospital. The video provides a vivid display of the attendant’s apparent lack of experience, as he admitted to having no prior knowledge of conducting an ECG.

Attendant’s justification cites lack of medical staff on duty

The attendant, upon being questioned, acknowledged his lack of qualifications for performing an ECG. He explained that the incident occurred due to a shortage of available staff during Diwali festivities. Feeling compelled to assist the patient, he resorted to following an online tutorial to perform the procedure himself. His justification has since been met with criticism from the public, as questions over patient safety and accountability in healthcare settings continue to arise.

Hospital authorities initiate investigation and promise action

In response to the viral video and ensuing public backlash, BS Jodha, principal of the associated medical college, announced an official investigation into the incident. He assured the public that corrective actions would be taken against any personnel found responsible for the misconduct. “The incident is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible,” he stated. This incident underscores the pressing need for qualified medical staff in hospitals, particularly in critical areas such as ECG procedures, and raises awareness about the importance of upholding medical protocols.
